Antidetect versus Tor
Tor is anonymity routing. Antidetect is profile isolation. Do not treat Tor as a farm tool, and do not sell antidetect as a Tor replacement.

One thing worth flagging up front: Tor and antidetect look similar in a screenshot and do almost nothing of the same job. Tor hides the network path. An antidetect profile keeps cookies, storage, and a fingerprint seed in separate folders on one Windows PC. If you only needed a different IP, you did not need either product’s marketing page.
I keep Tor Browser installed for a small set of public-page reads. I keep named local profiles for logins I already have a right to open. I do not launch one hoping it will behave like the other.
What each tool is actually for
What an antidetect browser is is isolation. Each profile gets its own Chromium or Firefox user-data directory. Cookies stay in that folder. localStorage stays in that folder. The fingerprint seed is meant to stay put across launches of the same profile. The exit, if you attach one, is an HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy you brought. MaskWright does not run an onion circuit.
Tor Browser is a hardened Firefox build plus a client for the Tor network. Traffic hops through relays. The exit is a Tor exit node. The product goal is to look like other Tor Browsers, not to give each storefront a stable, distinct fingerprint. That crowd-sameness is the opposite of a multi-account browser.
A VPN sits in the middle of this mix-up. It changes the exit. It does not split cookie stores. Tor changes the exit through relays. Antidetect splits cookie stores and may or may not change the exit.
What Tor will not do on a work PC
Tor will not give you a clean cookie store per client. One Tor Browser profile is still one session. You can add extra copies or Firefox containers, but you are fighting the product. Tor wants sameness. Firefox containers versus antidetect is the closer comparison if you were hoping a tab color would do the job.
Exit nodes also rotate. Sites that already distrust Tor keep distrusting it. That is not a bug you patch with a canvas overlay. That is the network doing what it advertised.
I will not treat Tor as a way to mint extra people. Unauthorized account multiplication is not a use I will document. Tor’s job is a path, not a roster.
What antidetect will not do for anonymity
An antidetect profile on Windows does not put you in an anonymity set. Traffic leaves through your home IP or through the proxy credentials stored on that profile. In MaskWright those credentials live inside the encrypted profiles.json index (AES-256-GCM). The Chromium user-data directory itself is not encrypted by our code. Cookie import files are plaintext JSON. That is a disk fact, not a slogan.
There is no onion routing. There is no Tor core. There is a custom Chromium 131 target when the core is installed, and a fallback to system Chrome or Edge when it is not. Firefox via Camoufox is an optional second core. None of that is a Tor replacement.
If your threat is a local observer on the same network, Tor or a VPN is the conversation. If your threat is two brand logins sharing cookies on one PC, antidetect is the conversation.
Cookies, folders, and the usual mix-ups
Incognito throws the session away when the window closes. Chrome profiles give you separate folders with the same engine family. Chrome versus antidetect is the everyday version of that split. Tor Browser aims for a uniform crowd fingerprint and a routed path.
Antidetect sits closer to named folders with a coherent spoof. The session lives on disk under the profile id. If you copy a user-data folder, you copied the login. That is true whether you used Tor last week or not.
I keep Tor Browser in its own install. I do not launch a MaskWright profile and then expect onion behavior.

When I pick which
I pick Tor to read a public page when I do not want the site to see my house IP, and when I accept blocks. I pick a local antidetect profile when I am opening a login I already hold. If you only have one Chrome profile, you may not need either. Download MaskWright if isolation was the job.
FAQ
Can I run Tor as the proxy behind a MaskWright profile?
You can point a profile at any HTTP or SOCKS5 exit you control. Tor as a SOCKS port is a path choice, not a product feature we ship or test. Expect sites to treat the traffic as Tor. Do not expect the fingerprint seed to make that quieter.
Does antidetect hide me from my ISP?
No. Your ISP still sees a connection to the proxy host or to the sites you open. Tor is the tool that was built to make the first hop someone else’s problem.
Is Tor Browser an antidetect browser?
No. It is a privacy browser with a routed network. Isolation of named work sessions is a different product class. A multi-session browser is closer, and still not Tor.
