Antidetect browser versus a VPN
A VPN changes the exit. It does not isolate cookie jars or fingerprints. Use this comparison when the question is VPN versus a local antidetect room.

A VPN is a tunnel for the whole PC, or for a single app if you paid for that mode. It changes the address the site sees first. It does not give you a second cookie store, a second localStorage, or a second fingerprint seed. Operators still type this versus query because "hide my IP" and "isolate my logins" got sold as the same sentence.

What the tunnel actually moves
Traffic leaves through the VPN exit. DNS may follow, if the client is set that way and Windows does not leak around it. WebRTC can still publish a local candidate if the browser is allowed to. The cookie store does not move. The canvas hash does not move. The logged-in ads account does not become a different account because the street changed.
That is why a VPN alone fails fingerprint tests that were never about IP. The page still sees one Chrome, one GPU story, one timezone that may now disagree with the exit country. Mismatch is a tell. A tunnel does not fix a mismatch. It can create one.
What an antidetect browser is names the job: profiles on the operator PC. A VPN is not a profile.
What the app does that a VPN cannot
Each profile keeps its own user-data directory. Cookies stay in that directory. A fingerprint record stays with that directory. If you attach a proxy to the profile, the exit is per login, not per PC. Timezone, language, and geolocation can follow that exit. MaskWright does that alignment on launch via ip-api.com. The lookup itself leaves the machine. The profile does not get uploaded.
A system VPN under an antidetect profile is usually the wrong stack. You wanted a per-profile exit and you installed a per-machine exit. Now every profile, plus your personal Chrome, plus the updater, share a street. Bring HTTP or SOCKS5 into the profile instead. We do not bundle those lines.

A per-profile proxy is the line that belongs with the login. A system VPN is the line that belongs with the life. Stacking both is how every profile, plus personal Chrome, plus the updater, share a street you thought was private.

When a VPN is the right tool
You have one life on the PC and you want that life to leave through another country. You are on public Wi-Fi and you want a tunnel for everything, including apps that are not browsers. You need to reach a network that only accepts the VPN. None of those jobs require profile isolation.
When you have several authorized logins, a VPN is at best an outer wrap. It is a poor inner tool. Do not buy an antidetect app because a VPN ad promised fingerprints. Do not buy a VPN because an antidetect ad promised privacy for a single personal login. What free means will not turn either product into the other.
Use the tunnel for the street. Use the app for the profiles. If you only needed the street, stay with the VPN and leave this category.

Can I run a VPN and an antidetect browser together?
You can. I usually would not. A system VPN wraps every profile plus personal Chrome. If you need a different exit per login, attach HTTP or SOCKS5 to that profile instead.
Does a VPN hide my fingerprint?
No. Fingerprints are browser and hardware signals. A VPN changes the IP, and sometimes DNS. Canvas, WebGL, fonts, and screen metrics stay with the install.
Is a residential proxy the same as a VPN?
No. A proxy is attached to one profile. A VPN is usually attached to the machine. Different blast radius, different leak surface. The proxy cluster covers the rest.
